Explore the Outdoors in Volusia County

manatee

There’s plenty to do in Volusia County! Whether your interests are extreme or relaxed, you can find an outdoor activity that’s perfect for your family, especially with social distancing in place. Get in the car with your family, and get ready to spend the day at one of these fantastic locations.

Blue Spring State Park

Are you tired of staring at a screen? Does BBQ on the dinner table just not feel the same as it does outdoors? Do you want to see the beauty of manatees in their natural habitat? Blue Spring State Park is a wonderful place to satisfy your Florida outdoor needs. With hiking trails, camping grounds and wildlife viewing points, treat your senses to a revitalizing experience. Since manatees prefer warmer temperatures, the winter months when they migrate south are the best time to see these magnificent creatures.

De Leon Springs State Park

If you love pancakes, you’ll enjoy the Old Spanish Sugar Mill at De Leon Springs State Park. Cook pancakes right at your table using griddles built into the wood, and choose from a variety of toppings and batter mixtures. After breakfast, take a dip in DeLeon Springs, go for a hike, take a boat tour, or rent a kayak or paddle boat.

Skydive DeLand

Are you looking for the rush and thrill of plummeting toward the earth from 14,000 feet? Skydive DeLand is the perfect choice for you. A world-renowned skydiving destination, Skydive and their experienced staff have been working with thrill seekers of all experience levels since 1982. There’s also an on-site restaurant and bar, The Perfect Spot, where you can view pictures of your descent.

Central Florida Zoo & Botanical Gardens

Technically this one is in Seminole County, but who doesn’t love a trip to the zoo? Head on down to the Central Florida Zoo, where you can spend the day watching lions, tigers, and bears (oh my)! Sign up to feed giraffes and meet PJ, the playful one-horned Indian rhino who calls the zoo home. The zoo also offers a ziplining aerial course and a tropical splash ground, among other fun attractions. Some of these do need to be reserved in advance.
